Viktoria Sorochinski:
“Fact & Fiction / Post Documentary”

8–10  & 23 June 2018
Leica Oscar Barnack Award finalist photographer Viktoria Sorochinski will give a four-days lecture about facts and fiction in post-documentary photography.
The new photographic era has changed our perception of “documentary” giving birth to a new concept “post-documentary”. In this new concept, reality and fiction are not contradicting each other, but rather supporting each other.
In this workshop, students will learn about various approaches to contemporary documentary and the possibility of crossing boundaries with staged or artistic interpretation in the visual storytelling through open discussions, practical assignments, readings, and slide presentations. Students will learn useful techniques in managing lighting in the out of studio situations. An overview of the basic principles and understanding of color as a visual tool will also be part of the lectures. Furthermore, this class will put an emphasis on making a concise editing in order to create a consistent and complete project with a clear narrative and a distinctive stylistic approach.

Viktoria Sorochinski is a Ukrainian-born Canadian artist currently working and living in Berlin. After acquiring her Masters of Fine Arts from New York University in 2008 she has had over 50 exhibitions in 16 countries throughout Europe, North and South America, and Asia.
