Bodo Müller
Bodo Müller was born in 1944 in Sensburg. He first studied Typography and Graphic Design at Berliner Fachschule für Werbung und Gestaltung, and then Painting and Graphic Art at Kunsthochschule Weißensee in Berlin.Parallel to his painting, he gave guitar concerts playing a wide repertoir varying from Renaissance and Barock to modern music. He worked behind the scenes as a stage, costume and poster designer for Staatstheater Schwerin in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, whilst demonstrating his musical talent on stage.
As a student Bodo Müller began to experiment with phootgraphy, even going so far as to build his own enlarger. He is still intrigued by the possibilities photography offers to discover images, a process that painting cannot reproduce. In his own art, Bodo feels any means necessary to leave a lasting impression. Für seine eigenen Bilder „fehlen ihm die Worte“ – um sie zu verwirklichen, sind ihm alle Mittel recht, die wahrnehmbare Spuren hinterlassen und für seine Ideen verwendbar sind.
Bodo’s works can be found in private collections and galleries such as the Nationalgalerie Berlin, Markisches Museum Berlin, and Staatliches Museum Schwerin.
“I make pictures
I cannot describe.”
With over 40 years experience teaching the essence of visual design, Bodo has taught at Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin, Fachhochschule Potsdam, and Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle. He has led numerous seminars and courses at places such as Bauhaus in Dessau, and has taught at the Neue Schule für Fotografie since its inception.
Bodo hopes to help his students to find means and ways to make their pictures. He uses painting and drawing exercises, in order to reduce the fast tempo of photography in order to look at it in detail, creating images with graphite and colour.
