Bertram Kober

Bertram Kober was born in 1961 in Leipzig. He studied photography at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst from 1981-1987. After obtaining his diploma under Evelyn Richter he completed a further degree there and then switched to Communication Design in Essen for two semesters in 1990 under Prof. Angela Neuke. He lives and works in Berlin and Leipzig.

After reunification Bertram Kober founded Punctum photo agency. He is still a member. With the new freedom to travel he made photographic study trips abroad to Spain, the UK and USA. Italy greatly inspired him and gave birth to his projects “Carrara” and “Sacri Monti”.

In 2005 he began teaching at Fotoschule am Schiffbauer Damm. In 2007 he cofounded the IAPh Board of Trustees, responsible for the Neue Schule für Fotografie, where he currently teaches.

students develop their own approach and seriousness to photography
as a medium.”

In class, Bertram Kober draws on his years of experience as a working photographer and artist in order to teach essential technique, art history, and image theory. In the second and third years he focuses on getting students to develop their personal style whilst providing a realistic view of the current market. Through lectures, discussions and practical exercises, he aims to create an open atmosphere where students can develop and work towards their goals.
