Freie Klasse Eva Bertram 2019

Autumn Class: From Images to Narratives

with Eva Maria Ocherbauer and Ben Chislett

Mon, Oct 14 to Sat, Oct 19, 2019

+++ For the first time and due to high demand, we are offering an Autumn edition of this workshop. +++

This workshop seeks to train the participants’ ability to combine images into narratives in order to create a strong and coherent body of work and as such define their own “visual signature.” The participants will work on a given task and will perform basic analysis of photographic imagery in relation to content and context. They will learn to understand context in relation to the history and development of photography and to apply basic visual elements and how they communicate ideas in order to create photographic realities out of initial ideas and concepts. In this way, participants acquire the critical tools to discuss and analyze their own and others’ work so as to give constructive criticism using the basic rules of composition and their own sense of aesthetics.

The workshop is supplemented by one day of technical teaching with photographer Ben Chislett. This day is designed to giving participants an overview of how complicated the colour process truly is and how to maintain accuracy to a maximum. Themes covered will include the eye, light, camera sensors and calibration, software, colour profiles, monitor calibration, and printer profiles.

Duration: Mon, Oct 14 to Sat, Oct 19, 2019, 10am to 5pm

Fee: 590 Euros (including four days of conceptual and one day of technical teaching, one day of personal work, and a museum visit)

25% off for Freelens members/alumni, 50% off for students of Neue Schule für Fotografie

Course language: English

Please register online by 23 September 2019

The number of participants is limited to 12.

25./26. November & 02. Dezember 2017

From Images to Narratives

Associate images into narratives – Create a strong and coherent body of work

28 March – 2 April 2016

23rd-28th of February 2015

The goal of this one week workshop is to improve the students’ ability to associate images into narratives, in order to create a strong and coherent body of work, and as such define their own “visual signature”. Students will work on a given task to perform basic analysis of photographic imagery in relation to content and context, understand current context in relation to the history and development of photography, understand and apply basic visual elements and how these elements communicate concepts. Springclass aims to encourage students to develop their own ideas and concepts and turn them into “photographic realities”.
