Mission Statement

The Neue Schule für Fotografie sees it as its mission to teach students the discerning image making skills necessary for a successful career in phootography, regardles of genre, whether art, portrait, staged, documentary, product or fashion photography. The three and a half year course at the Neue Schule für Fotografie provides students with the training necessary to develop high-level of competence in the conception, production, editing, and presentation of analog and digital photography.

Alongside the teaching of fundamental theoretical, design, and technical principles, the Neue Schule teaches students to find and define their unique photographic voice in a cultural and social context. We consider a unique personal approach to be key to success in any professional photographic environment, and thus essential.

About the Neue Schule für Fotografie

The Neue Schule für Fotografie has existed in its current form since 2007. It was formed by members of the former Fotoschule am Schiffbauerdamm (FaS).

The school staff make the Neue Schule für Fotografie what it is. Comprised of dedicated and experienced lecturers, artists, working photographers, and researchers, they lay a special focus on developing individual talents and strengths.

Spread over more than 700 square metres in Mitte, the school has several teaching rooms, a large photo-studio, two black and white darkrooms, a colour darkroom, a computer room, a printer room, and a large gallery.

The IAPh e.V.

The “International Academy for Photography” (IAPh Berlin e.V.) is a non-profit incorporated association, patron of photography, and administrator of the Neue Schule für Fotografie.

The IAPh e.V. (incorporated association) has 28 members, comprised of Staff, former students and friends of photography.

Plenary assemblies are held every year, with a new executive board elected every two years. The board of directors governs the school in the name of the IAPh, meeting between 3 to 6 times per Semester to discuss and act on current issues.
